             The declaration is a well known and an incredibly important document in history that is still in use today. It was addressed to the people of the United States. The purpose of the document was to set ground rules for the new colonies for both the people and where government role was.
             The starting of the declaration of independence started back to may 6 1776. this is when north Carolina declared independence so of coarse all the other colonies wanted independence too. So congress agreed and had all the colonies make up their own government. As a result to all of this congress appointed Thomas Jefferson who was a Virginian lawyer who is known for his "broad knowledge and skillfully crafted prose," to write the declaration of independence. Though the whole idea of the declaration of independence was originally john Locke's idea. John Locke stated, "People willingly come together in a social contract. Basically people enjoy "natural rights", to life liberty and property but they needed some ground rules so they developed the declaration of independence. .
             There are many well-known people in history that signed this document including, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Hancock and several others.
             The women in history also played a big role in th declaration of independence, such as Abigail Smith Adams who wrote letters to John Adams to straighten out the inequalities that were being put into the declaration. .
