After his roommate returns Holden and him get into a fight and Holden loses being left on the floor with a bloody nose. After all this Holden thinks it would be a good idea just to leave. He can't stand the thought of being at that school with those people anymore. During the remainder of the book I like to call it Holden's journey to finding himself. This kid is so screwed up in the head it really isn't funny. This kid has breakdown after breakdown. After he leaves Pency Prep he is on this train and recognizes one of his fellow classmates mother. He tells this woman all these lies about her son. Although they are lies she likes to hear they are still lies. He also tells this woman a false name, which turns out to be the janitor's name. If all that isn't bad enough when they part he tells this woman he is going on his way to have a brain tumor removed. Another time he hires a prostitute. Sunny. He gives her a different name than his own. Sunny tries to seduce him and because he was still a virgin he was uncomfortable and he told her to leave. He pays her $5.00 she tells him the price is $10.00. He doesn't pay it and regrets it later when the pimp he hired her from kicks his butt. After this incident he meets two nuns and because they have "cheap" luggage he remembers an old roommate. He thinks of how the boy hid his luggage in shame and how he himself had nice luggage. He hid his luggage to be polite but his roommate took his luggage and said it was his own. That made Holden think of hypocrisy and inequality. Two things he hated. Holden meets Sally, one of his friends, and goes out with her. He asks her to run away with him and she turns him down. They get into a big fight and both leave with feelings hurt. Holden later sees Phoebe. Phoebe his little sister learns of the news and scolds him. She is worried about the chaos that he is going to cause because of him being expelled from school. He tells her later that he wants to be a catcher in the rye.
