Trombone Recietal

 

I found that the trombonists posture was quite laid back. He wasn't moving much when he played, but still seemed to be enjoying his work, and he looked like he had a lot of pride when he played. The pianist played very well, and his posture was excellent, as he was sitting quite straight. There were no voices during this piece of music. I don't think that voices would have really added to this performance, as it was already quite good. The performers communication with each other was discreet, but visible. They never talked to each other, but they did make eye contact when they were ready to start. I also noticed the trombonist give a small smile to the pianist at one point of the performance, which may have represented his enthusiasm. Apart from this, this was some of the only communication I observed. .
             The important aspect of the performance practice was basically that I could tell that both musicians were in step the entire time they played. As I mentioned before, there were glances before each movement started, which signaled that they were ready to start. I don't recall an instance where one of the two faculty members were playing at the wrong time. Musical notation was found throughout the performance. Both the pianist and the trombonist used musical notation, thus there was no improvisation involved. The trombonist was able to change his music with his hand when he had to, the pianist on the other hand, had to use his assistant to change the music for him. I thought it was quite interesting that the assistant knew the exact time to change the sheet. I"m assuming that he must be a pianist himself, either that or he really knows his piano notation. I found that on the first piece, both performers shared equal roles. On the second piece, the trombonist played a little more than the pianist did. However, on the third piece, the trombonist played unaccompanied. I found that by doing this, he was able to show off his skills a lot better because he was the only performer that we were focused on.
