Resocialization

Resocialization, not a term that I was most familiar with. In the next few pages of this report I plan to attempt to understand the fundamentals of resocialiation. What is it? Forms of resocializaiton, and am I going to do it?.
             What is resocialization?.
Resocialization is defined by our tex, (Contemporary society, Tenth Edition) as a process in which the individual's existing self-concept and identity are erased in favor of a new personality or are altered to fit new roles. I am not so sure that I would agree with that definition. I do not think that someone whom is being imprisoned would consider it to be a favored transition. My interpretation of the definition is, life's transitions's one must make when circumstances reauire a person to change from their exisiting state of being. In general resocialiation is the changing of identity and behavior sometimes requireing the person to totally abondon their previous way of being in order to continue one's personality development. Socializaiton is a vital part of our daily lives. As our lives change from day to day, year to year our socializaiton skills also change. It is when these socializaiton skills are forced to change because of circumstances that resocialization must occur.
             Forms of resocializaiton.
Resocialization can occur at different times, ina person's life taking on different forms. When a person finds them self catapulted into a new culture becuase of work or what ever reason, resocialization will probably occur. Using myself as an exmple let us say I suddenly had to move to Alaska to live like the Eskimos. In order for me to 'fit' in I would have to hcnage my way of thinking about cold, food, housing, transporation and clothing. This would be a radical change for me because I hate cold weahter. Due to the food sources avaiable I would need to change my eating habits, to include much more fish. My house would no longer have flowers growing in front, I owuld be forced to adhere to the cold climate of a house.
