After a late night on the town last weekend, I found myself at home worshipping the porcelain goddess. In the midst of my distress I happened to notice a advertisement for Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum in an issue of FHM. Then it hit me, If this ad can catch my attention at a time like this, they must be doing something right. Although I couldn't pin point exactly what was drawing me to this ad, I couldn't help but try to disifer what was going on in this advertisement. Would I be in his shoes as opposed to mine if I had a taste of the unexpected? Could my whole persona change because of the mere fact I chose the unexpected over the norm? According to this advertisement, I sure can.
Captain Morgan, "a taste of the unexpected"? This statement demonstrates Logos, the appeal to reason. The line leaves you hanging and curious about the product. The use of the word unexpected leads to a wide array of ideas. This is a characteristic found in most successful ads. .
The reason I chose this ad reflects on the use of Pathos. Getting extremely hot girls to pose with your product is always a plus. Especially for guys, we share the same love for hot girls. Advertising companies know this, that's why the use of attractive girls is found common in the ad industry.
