Envy vs. Jealousy

 

            Envy and jealousy are often used as synonyms. They are used to describe the natural emotion that makes us feel bad towards other's qualities or possessions. . Although they seem the same, envy and jealousy are actually distinct. Each has its own qualities, which makes each different from the other.
             Envy occurs when a person lacks another person's superior quality, achievement, possession or fortune, and desire it or wishes that the other person lacked it. Someone who envy of somebody or something have feelings of inferiority. He or she shows ill will towards envied person, often accompanied by guilt about these feelings. Besides, he or she has motivation to improve.
             Jealousy, by contrast, occurs when a person fear of losing someone or something to a rival in particular, losing a relationship that is important to one's sense of self. Feeling jealousy is always accompanied by suspicion, distrust or anger about betrayer. He/She may feel low self-esteem, sadness and loneliness over loss.
             Jealousy is a stronger and more unpleasant feeling than envy. For example, Jay's new job sounds very nice Jane is full of envy. This means Jane wishes she had a job like his. She is longing for Jay's fortune to have such a nice job. Unlike envy, jealousy is a more intense feeling than envy. Jane is full of jealousy about Jay's job. There is an implicit meaning of Jane feels a strong dislike for Jay. It is because she thinks she should have got the job. She shows ill will because of losing her interest.
             For all their distinctiveness, envy and jealousy sometimes occur together. For instant, when Andy gives attention to an attractive girl other than his girlfriend Sammi, Sammi may feel both envy of the rival for being so attractive and jealous of that attention. Since jealousy involves the loss of a personal relationship, it's usually tenser than envy.
             Envy and Jealousy, are similar wordings, but they are quite distinct with different components.
