There formal wear is elaborately embroidered barong for men made with finer fabric and women wear a terno which is a full length dress with a scoop neckline and butterfly sleeves. Also a person that has a more fair complexion is considered more beautiful and wealthy,mainly because they are not working in the fields.
The language spoken in the Philippines is English and Pilipino. English is the main language of business,education, and government. The Pilipino language is referred to as talgalog which is a dialect form Luzon. More people there speak the Pilipino dialect which is laced with some english words. There speaking in a dialect that someone might not understand is considered rude.
There are many types of jobs held in the Philippines. Women and men both hold government ,business,and industry positions, but about 40"% of the Philippine workers make their living by farming. Rural women work along side men in the rice fields. Also the women manage the household and care for the children. If you are an adult child in the family you will have to help support you parents and any siblings. Also many Filipino will work over seas for the family and then send the money back home. .
The homes in the Philippines are not too big unless you are very rich. Most of the houses stand close together in small clusters. They are made of wooden walls and roofs are made of thatch or iron. Most homes have one or two bedrooms, kitchen, and a comfort room (bath room). Some house will have out houses and even out door kitchens, but they usually have electricity and a water supply. Many of the more richer homes will have large fences around their houses and very large mean dogs. This is mainly because lots of people there break into houses and steal things.The poor people live in roughly constructed shacks in the slums of neighborhoods. A main thing kept outside the houses is a large mask which is used to keep bad spirits away; most are very scary looking.
