Ho Chi Minh- Nationalist or Communist?

Ho Chi Minh tried to create a socialist revolution in Vietnam aimed at the rising of the whole nation in order to overthrow the ruling French and become independent. Through revolution, the Vietnamese people would get the satisfaction of knowing that they were contributing to a great cause in that their country would be ruled by the people of Vietnam. This is the basis premise of a nationalist revolution. Ho's management of this cause showed clearly that revolution was both a science and an art. It was an application where he could combine all possibilities, a creative reaction to varying situations. Ho perpetually followed one goal and that was to eradicate foreign rule of his country- and in doing so, his tactics were evidently dynamic and versatile; skillfully omitting rigid principles. .
Minh ardently argued the importance of communism to win the battle against the French imperialists, "In order to carry out this task, the Party must uncompromisingly fight sectarianism and organize the systematic study of Marxism-Leninism in order to raise the cultural and political levels of the Party members It must maintain close contact with the French Communist Party." (www.h-net.msu.edu~/diplo/Ho.htm). William Duiker, Minh's biographer, a man who served in Saigon's US embassy during the Vietnam War and who interviewed Minh's colleagues, succinctly summarizes Ho's description of the party's aims in the Brief Rules of the Party: "The Communist Party of Vietnam has been organized to lead the laboring masses in the class struggle to wipe out capitalism and imperialism, and build a Communist society." (.
It seemed that National independence helped build socialism while socialism gave an epochal connotation to national independence, helping it to become most effective and successful. Additionally, Ho effectively combined the course of national liberation with socialist ideals in the fight against starvation, ignorance and foreign aggression.
