The Pirates of Silicon Valley

Steve Jobs said this to Bill, said that Apple is better, and all Bill Gates had to say was that it doesn't matter; Microsoft launched the software first, that's all that mattered, and Bill Gates knew that. As the saying goes, "haste makes waste " or in this situation "haste makes Microsoft "! Now today, Microsoft owns part of Apple. How's that for the final nail in the "who's going to beat who " coffin.
#2. Although trying to market the same product, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs could not have had a more different approach to motivating their employees. This difference in motivational style, in my opinion, is what led to Microsoft inevitably overpowering Apple. This just goes to show you that good leadership, good motivation and a good product really do go hand in hand with each other.
Steve Jobs may have thought he was motivating, but in reality, he was bullying and belittling his employees. He was constantly yelling at them; dissatisfied with anything and almost everything they did. In his mind, no one worked hard enough; even though they were pulling 80 hour work weeks, Job's was still not impressed. His motivational style was borderline emotional abuse! He motivated though the use of fear; thorough the fear of disappointing him and ultimately fear of being fired. Jobs' would walk through the office at any given time and, Boom!, he sees something he didn't like and he flips out. One second your minutes away from breaking a program function and the next he fires you! Great motivation Steve! NOT!.

Bill Gates on the other hand hardly, if ever, raised his voice. He is the quiet and complex type. He motivated thought inspiration. Always trying to remind everyone what was at stake and how unimaginably amazing this project was going to be if they could just beat Apple! He used the competitive nature that we all have in us, that need we all have to beat the other, to motivate his employees. He knew that Apple had the goods and he didn't, and he used that to motivate and inspire everyone to work harder to get it.
