Ballet, Perfectionism and Black Swan

Perfect. It was perfect"." However, she is completely satisfied and even so, with a slight smile on her face.
This article offers another take on the life of a ballerina. They live their lives constantly focusing on their roles in order to make an audience happy, so much so that they sometimes become entirely consumed by them. Once their roles are done, only then are they satisfied with themselves and think the suffering and self-harm was worth it. Sometimes the dancers are still unsatisfied due to which they put even more pressure on themselves in their strive to be absolutely perfect for their audience. This shows how hard-working dancers need to be in order for people to appreciate the true beauty of their art. It is important to consider these aspects when we sit down to watch a form of art that relies on such precise fluid body movements.
In this journal article about the "Black Swan", Fisher and Jacobs argue their positions in separate sub-articles. The article mainly focuses on the filming aspect of the movie and talks about how powerful the movie was only because of the way it was shot. However, as critics, at different positions in the entirety of the article they argue that Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan" is cliche in many ways. It talks about the patriarchal nature of the ballet system in that the women are constantly manipulated and controlled by their directors and are forced to compete with other colleagues for different spots in a routine. Fisher mentions "If [the art director] embodies patriarchy, then Nina's relationship with other women shows the damage that patriarchy has done. " Jacobs mentions "Under the patriarchal conditions Black Swan replicates, women's attempts to achieve subjectivity invariably result in madness, breakdown, self-destructive behavior and premature death". ".

The article as a whole points out two very interesting aspects of the ballet world that could be included into my research paper.
