Angioplasty - Unblocking the Arteries

Retrieved October 25,2012, from http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/angioplasty.html.).
Some procedures that might be done during Angioplasty is a balloon angioplasty. In this procedure, a catheter with a balloon tip is guided in the artery. Once the balloon is placed, it is inflated to compress the plaque in the wall and that will help stretch the artery open to increase blood flow to the heart. Another procedure that is used is the cutting balloon, which has a special balloon tip that has small blades. When the balloon is popped, the blades are ready to use. The blades help get rid of the plaque, and then the balloon is tightly together to get rid of the matter in the wall. The purpose of an angioplasty is to remove any plaque in the arteries without having surgery. I predict in the future, that scientists will come up with easier and faster procedures that will take less time. No author. ( 19 October 2012 ). MedlinePlus. In Angiplasty.              I did my article on Angioplasty; I found an article that was studied by Naomi Pfeiffer. She did an article on the Angioplasty: the great cardiology debate. She did this study in January 1992. She did this study in New York. Naomi Pfeiffer has found a bunch of facts about Angioplasty. "More than 350,000 patients received transluminal coronary angioplasty in 1991. Some cardiologists question the effectiveness of the procedure since 45% of recipients experience restenosis.              Naomi Pfeiffer did a one year study, in her study "that involved more than 500 patients that received angioplasty have shown a 3% death rate, according to Dr. Topol. But about half of the patients were stricken by a infarction or serious symptoms after treatment that required repeat angioplasty or bypass surgery.
