Personal Story - Taking My Mom to the Emergency Room

It was a frigid day in late January and school had been closed because of snow and ice covered roads. My friend had slept over since there was no school and she could not drive home because her truck was stuck in front of my house. The next morning, I woke up around eight in the morning and went to my parents' room to find my mom in severe pain. She said, "Katie, you need to take me to the hospital! " I looked outside and wondered how I was going to drive my mom to the hospital in such inclement weather, but I somehow managed to do it. Schools had been closed since the day before because around lunch time snow started falling unexpectedly. The school system did not want to send all the students home until after noon in order to make it count as a full day. The snow did not stop, in fact it started falling harder. The school system could not send home all the students fast enough due to late buses; therefore, hundreds of kids were stuck at the schools overnight because their parents were stuck at work or on the side of the road. Many buses never made it to the schools to pick up students. There were also thousands of cars stuck on the side of the road from getting stuck trying to make it home, but never did. I was one of the few lucky ones to make it home in one piece that afternoon. .
I immediately walked outside after my mom told me she needed to get to the hospital. When I got outside there was snow and ice everywhere that had to be cleaned off before we could drive to the hospital. Even though I was feeling overwhelmed I immediately started clearing the driveway and the windshield of the truck. I then started our truck to start getting it warmed up, then I went back inside to check on my mom and to tell my friend what was going on. The reason I had to drive our old truck is because there was no other cars at our house at the moment. The previous day my dad was on his way home from work and got his car stuck on an enormous hill, so he was stranded at a hotel, and my mom's SUV was stuck in the snow and ice a few miles away from our house because she could not make it home from work, but was close enough to walk the rest of the way home.
