The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC)

John F Kennedy once said, "A child miseducated is a child lost." I strongly believe in this statement. Children are the future of a nation. So for the betterment of the society at large, they should get an opportunity of better education, nutritious food, proper shelter, and appropriate health facilities. According to the UNICEF's survey, tremendous improvement has been achieved in terms of these basic needs during the past decades. Statistics say, in 1990, only 53 % of children in underdeveloped countries were able to go to school, whereas by 2012, the rate has improved to 81%. Another shocking statistic published by UNICEF is about 90 million children would have died before the age of 5 if mortality rate had stuck to1990's level. Approximately, 1.9 billion of people have access to good hygiene in less developed countries since 1990.
Thanks to an organization like UNICEF, SOS and many more and a person like Pushpa Basnet who has contributed as per their capability and resources provide to them to provide care and security to children. Pushpa Basnet, a Nepali citizen, started a non-profit organization called Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) in early 2005. Since then, she has been actively involved in the field of social work providing care for several unfortunate children. For her unparalleled contribution; she was awarded with the "CNN Heroes Award" in the year 2012. It is a bitter truth that, in Nepal, if a mother is imprisoned, her children have to accompany their mother because of the lack of any foster home for them. They grow up within the harsh boundaries of jail cells without education, proper nutrition and medical facilities and ultimately choose a path to crime. The main objective of ECDC is to help imprisoned parents and their children. Every child deserves an equal opportunity to get better education, to get better accommodation, to get balanced food, to get the proper health care system and to live in safe and respectful society and ECDC helps them to achieve it.
