Corruption and Scandal in State and Local Government

 

            "Democracy is when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers, " Aristotle observed in his Politics. "If liberty and equality are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons share alike in government to the utmost"" (Aristotle 60.) The media coverage on our elected officials is a constant factor in how well our leaders are maintaining democracy. Many of these reporting are unfortunately including the latest hairstyle of the first lady. But the favorite thing for the media to report is scandal and corruption. In a realistic world today there is corruption and scandal all around the American people. This affected the laws which go into place and how things are conducted in government both on the federal and state levels and is by far not what democracy should include.
             This conduct to which government official's are to maintain become the utmost important as it shall eliminate most of the corruption within the United States of Americas government as well as create a better society for the American public to flourish in. But "Countless stories have addressed one governor's attempt to sell vacant Senate seats, another's international trips for extramarital trysts, and another's penchant for escorts. Presidential candidates have been caught having affairs, fathering children out of wedlock, and raising "slush funds" of cash for personal expenses. Executive branch and judicial nominees have been exposed for cheating on their taxes, cheating on their spouses, sexually harassing their staffs, and hiring undocumented workers. It seems as though corruption is at all levels of government which is a large concern and needs to be addressed and corrected.
