Two great heroes from different times can be more alike than people may think. Beowulf is from the Anglo Saxon culture, and Hercules is from ancient Greece. In both of these cultures people were Pagans. This meant that they worshiped many gods. Anglo Saxons worshiped Germanic gods, and The Greece worshiped Greek gods. Both of their civilizations were based on war and battle. Beowulf and Hercules are also the same in many ways but are different at the same time. These two heroes have many things in common like how they are both brave and will do anything to protect their people. They both have to face evil monsters and kill them. Hercules has to face twelve deadly challenges, and Beowulf only has to face three monsters. Hercules has to kill the Nemean lion and bring back its skin, kill the Lernaean Hydra, catch the Ceryneian Hind, capture the Erymanthian Boar alive, clean the Augean stables in one day, slay all the Stymphalian birds, capture the Cretan bull, steal the mares of Diomedes, Obtain the girdle of Hippolyte, obtain the cows of Geryon, Steal the apples of Hesperides, and finally capture the Cerberus. Beowulf has to kill Grendel's mom, Grendel, and the dragon in the land of the Geats. They never lost a battle in their lifetime. In the story of Beowulf the author says that "The man whose name was known for courage, the Geat leader " (Lines 340-341). Both Hercules and Beowulf are both very courageous. They had a great sense of leadership, and know how to lead an army and their people. Hercules and Beowulf both have many things in common, but they also have some differences. .
Beowulf is a normal person on earth, but he is very strong. He is told in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles. Beowulf is a very good show off. He shows off everything he does, like when he never loses a battle. He lets everyone know that he has never lost a battle. Beowulf is attacked in the middle of the night by Grendel.
