Reading passages like parables make it easy to understand metaphor, and even though some things are still confusing, with time the Bible becomes easier and easier to understand " (Otto). Lauren is saying is that when she was younger, she picked up the bible, was curious and wanted to learn more about it. This is what started her on her journey of becoming a more Christ-like Christian, becoming a better reader and a writer. "The first thing I remember is that the most fun thing to read was the bible, because my mother would narrate the bible in a different way for me so that it had a meaning for me, and she would tell the stories in a very vivid way. So this opened up my appetite for reading other books too " (Rienzi). My mother picked up the bible at an early age. The way my grandmother told her stories, helped her find what she wanted to do with her life since she was young. As she kept reading more stories in the bible, she also started becoming more interested in other books and stories. From there, she found musicals and operas. That's when she figured that she'd take singing lessons and try and become the best soprano she could be. "I remember my mother would read me stories from the bible and read along with as she would teach how to pronounce and know the meaning of the readings. This helped me understand most of the reading I did at school, in every subject really " (Gimenez). My interviewees all shared something in this question. They all, at a young age, started reading the bible and this helped them get better in their literacy. It is a good idea to start reading at a young age. Children become more intrigued and actually want to learn more after they get started. Starting to read and write at an early age can help understanding more difficult tasks these kids would have to go through during school. Did your parents influence you to read the bible to learn how to write? "My parents definitely encouraged me to read my Bible, but that wasn't how I learned how to write.
