Perceptions on Contemporary Popular Music

There are lots of new contemporary songs out now a-days and my perception on some of these songs are not always too good. I feel like a lot of songs in my generation are a lot less pointless and generic, however there are sometimes when I really do feel a certain song is meaningful and I enjoy it. Sometimes I feel like it is the beat that I like the most other times I feel like it is the lyrics. Every once in a while there is a song that has both of those qualities; a great beat and an amazing lyrical performance.
Pharrell is one of the many Contemporary artist around right now, he is featured in the song happy. Happy is one the few songs that I can actually get going too. I would not say it is the best song out there right now, but I would say that song is played a lot at dance parties and clubs. I have this opinion because this song has a great hip beat to it. The lyrics are actually not bad either, it starts off with a pretty good rhyme that goes like this "It might seem crazy what I'm 'bout to say sunshine she's here, you can take a break I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space with the air like I don't care, baby, by the way" It sort of pulls you in to the song with a good beat and a great start with the lyrics. There is a certain point in the song where he says "Here comes bad news, talkin' this and that but give me all you've got, and don't hold it back." When he says this he means he wants whoever he is singing this song too to be upfront and honest with him.
Contemporary artists like Pharrell are on my good side but there are also some artist that I do not particularly care for. The award for most hated contemporary artist for me goes too! (Drum roll please!). Hunter Hayes, his song Wanted almost makes me sick to my stomach every time I hear it. I don't know if it is because of my strong dislike to country music or if I just hate him as a person, all I know is that when he says "Wanna hold your hand forever and never let you forget it" It just makes me want to grab my radio and throw it out the window! But one of his verses I can kind of agree too.
