Film Summary - Coraline

"For a moment she felt utterly dislocated. She did not know where she was; she was not entirely sure who she was." She was lost, confused, and completely disoriented. Most of us have felt that in our lives, where we feel as though we are in an unknown place not even knowing who you are. Coraline dreamed of a life that was not her own. Once her family moved to a new place for a "better life," but that required leaving all of her friends behind and everything that was familiar. She dreamed and wished for a better life, a different and exciting life. One night, she got what she wished for, and her perspective was changed for good. Coraline touches on the idea that we all have to be careful for what we wish for.
Coraline arrived to the old home that her family was moving into a place called the "Pink Palace" already determined that it would be a horrible decision on her parent's part. Her parents were so focused on work that she felt as though she was ignored, so she decided to go exploring and came across a strange boy named Wybie. She returned home after her adventure and she realized that she really misses her old life. Coraline came across a small door in the wall and for some odd reason, has the audacity to go through. Through the tunnel, she arrived to something that looked exactly like her home, but the difference was that she met her "Other" parents. Her "Other" parents were everything that she craved; she got their attention and they wanted to give her anything she wants. At first, it was tempting to Coraline, until the Other Mother offered her own pair of button eyes. Coraline started to see the corruption involved in their world, how things may not have been as she thought. She started seeing things that she never imagined and once she decided to stay herself, the entire world transformed. She quickly was threatened by the Other Mother and Coraline had no choice but to try to escape, and once she did, she had never been happier to see her parents.
