Summary: Of Mice and Men

Of Mice and Men is a very touching story about two friends trying to make it in the world. This book involves a lot of difficult conflicts to deal with. Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck in 1937. This interesting story takes place during the 1930s on a ranch in the Salinas Valley in California. George and Lennie are two men just looking for a job. The two became very close and George feels as if he needs to look out for Lennie. Lennie isn't all there. He has the mentality of a child. This is why they are looking for more work, they had got run out of their last job because of Lennie. George truly does care about Lennie. Even though Lennie does several things that makes George mad throughout the story, George still stands by his side. To me, that's a great person. When times got tough, he didn't just kick Lennie to the curb and say "figure it out yourself." He was always there. Not a lot of people are not patient enough to deal with those types of situations. Not only that, but he always wanted the best for Lennie. They dreamed of earning enough money to have a big farm on their own. Lennie wanted to own bunnies on that farm and George told him that they would. I believe Lennie truly looked up to George. It really made me think about how people can truly make an impact on others. It doesn't have to be anything fancy either. George didn't buy Lennie anything, because he had nothing. His company was enough for Lennie. Some people might think that the things George sometimes says to Lennie is rude, but most of it is just George's personality. He also really cares about Lennie and wants him to do well. It's like tough love. This story of George and Lennie is truly touching and that's why I believe so many people would enjoy this book. Not only because of the how great it is to read about someone helping and caring for another person; a great friendship, but also because the actual plot of the story is good.
