Zoo Animals - Captive for Life

Going to the zoo is a fun outing for many people, but the real question is should those animals be kept in captivity? A couple reasons animals should be held captive are: research and education, and breeding which can prevent extinction. However, many believe that animals should not be held captive because of the aggression they display towards their keepers, their confinement is much smaller than the wild, and it can also cause captive stress which can shorten their lifespan. Animals should not be held captive. In most cases animals are more aggressive towards humans when held captive compared to when they are in the wild. There have been many attacks of animals on their keepers; people need to be aware that even though these animals are captive and have trainers, they are still wild animals. A zoo keeper in Toledo was attacked by an elephant he has been with since birth, animals are very unpredictable. " "I think it was just a fluke at this particular time," Alan Roocroft, an international expert on elephants, said last week after an initial assessment of the issue. He said it didn't appear that the 4,000-pound animal intended to seriously harm Mr. RedFox, who had worked with the animal since its birth. "(Boyd-Barrett) Keepers and trainers never will know when an animal will have a "fluke ".
"An animal rights group is calling bear zoos in Cherokee "prisons" on a new billboard showing a little girl crying with a bloodied bandage on her hand. "(Ostendorff) As seen in the eyes of people against animal captivity any zoo is like prison, even though those animals did nothing wrong. "The zoos, in some cases, are concrete block pens that let tourists see and feed bears from above. " Bears are not meant to be kept in concrete pens, they're meant to roam the forests like they have been doing since they arrived on this planet. Wild animals are so used to unlimited space; putting them in cages, pens, and pools is just wrong.
