Short Story - Just Say No

I knew it was wrong but I couldn't stop. I knew I had to save her, save myself from what was to come. There was a demon inside me saying ˜take another; it feels so good, you know it does.' My face was on the cold hard surface of the wooden floor. The smell in the air was intoxicating. The deafening silence was everywhere; there was a loud ringing in my ears I knew would only get worse. The bitter taste in my mouth was sickening. The swirling sensation in my stomach made me dizzy. I could hardly stand let alone walk. But I had to try, for her. I turned my head to look up and saw the coffee table. I used all my strength to pull my lifeless body along the splintered wooden floor. After a time of pulling myself along the floor I came to the base of the table. I put my hand up to the ledge of the table and dragged my chin up to lie on the walnut surface. I panted heavily. I focused all my energy on trying to stand. I put my foot underneath myself and pushed. .
Slowly, I stood up and got to grips with actually putting pressure on my legs. I looked around. I didn't know where I was or how I got there. It was a strange room with the carnage that had befallen me everywhere. I looked inwards on myself. I thought "How did I get here? What road must I have taken to get to this point? What went wrong? " As soon as I started taking my first steps it felt like the room was spinning back and forth. As I grasped the door knob I felt myself holding on to it to regain steadiness. I opened the door and a blast of fresh air punched me in the face. I stepped back to take it all in. The door led to a corridor then to a set of stairs. As I stumbled down the corridor I was being pin balled from one wall to the other. It felt like I was being pushed from side to side by bullies in a playground. As the house was not well lit I felt my way down the side of the wall. Suddenly the wall stopped, I halted. My hand fell from the edge of the wall and I had to regain stability.
