School Uniforms - Smarter and Safer

"Our biggest problem with a school uniform policy is the anti-individuality message it sends" (Fetzer, Kent J). Individuality has an essential value in America. According to the first amendment, all Americans have the right to express their own opinion without any fear of punishment. This value, however, is not appropriate for schools. School uniforms establish better performance instead of stifling the individuality. School uniforms should be required for all schools because school uniform makes students' lives simpler and stress free, makes students disciplined and focused on their studies with less peer pressure, develops unity and equality among the students which results in less violence, and gives students an opportunity through which they can express themselves in a unique way.
Firstly, wearing school uniform makes students' lives less complex and worry free. They do not have to decide what to wear every morning; choosing an outfit is a difficult task, and trying an outfit after outfit is stressful and a waste of time. For instance, when a student gets up in the morning, he/she opens the wardrobe to select an outfit, and thinks what to wear that day. Also, they do not remember what they wore yesterday or the day before yesterday. So, they get confused. Making a decision to select an outfit takes a long time. Furthermore, they have to buy many clothes to show off. These issues put stress not only on students but also on their parents. Uniform saves time, thus it reduces the stress and also saves up money. According to a survey, "94 % parents reduce wardrobe battle with kids, 92 % easier to get kids ready in the morning, 93% save time in the morning, and 90% easier to shop for clothes" (National). This information proposes that school uniforms help schools increase parental contentment. .
Secondly, school uniform constructs an atmosphere where students can practice discipline, focus on their studies and stay away from peer pressure.
