Comparing Superman with Hercules

 

            Epic and modern day heroes have many similarities and differences. Their personalities, characteristics, and physical abilities vary. These similarities and differences make heroes unique and memorable for years to come. An epic hero is a larger than life hero who embodies the values of a particular society. An epic hero is superhuman. He is braver, stronger, smarter, and cleverer than an ordinary person. Epic heroes tend to be excellent leaders also who inspire many and take chances. Epic heroes possess many traits. These traits are constantly repeated in modern and ancient literature. Some examples of these traits include supernatural strength, interactions with godlike creatures, and an epic journey or quest. These traits and more are represented by and seen in Hercules. .
             Epic heroes also work for a reward, while most modern day heroes do not. The epic heroes' characteristics closely resemble the modern hero. They both represent their society and civilization. Both have the capability of being defeated and even killed. One difference in the characteristics of an epic and modern hero is their hunger for fame. Epic heroes often seek fame, unlike modern heroes. Modern heroes accomplish great deeds because it either feels good to them or it is their job. One of the biggest differences between epic and modern heroes consists of their physical abilities. Heroes, these days, do not have to rely on the use of physical capabilities to accomplish great deeds. Although the two heroes Hercules & Superman are both characterized for their strength, their personalities and super powers differ significantly. While Superman can fly and has x ray vision, Hercules only has strength.
             Hercules, the hero that strangled two deadly snakes as a baby, grew to be eight feet tall as a teen, fought bloodthirsty monsters, rescued beautiful ladies and dressed in a lion's skin as an adult was the world's first superhero.
