Keep Cyclists Off the Road

Oftentimes they're steering with their knees, since their arms and hands are rendered useless as the flail above them in ecstasy. I realize the campus has attempted to alleviate some of the problem with bike lanes, but as long as those who belong within the lines do not do so, cars will not cease their incessant honking, as they have to continue steering around this oblivious variety of bike rider.
The interesting thing is that there are laws in existence that state the road is the appropriate place for a cyclist. Because sidewalks are made for those traveling under 5 mph, a bicycle, which averages 10-15 mph, clearly does not belong amongst power walkers and joggers. Why then are cyclist allowed to be around vehicles going at least three times as fast as them? If we allow a bicycle, a slower moving and two-wheeled form of transportation onto our roads, why not allow skateboards and razor scooters too? Is it not logical to think some people prefer other modes of transportation besides a car or bike, like a horse or roller blades? These too cannot keep up with the speed of a car and are less expensive, yet people laugh at the thought of these sharing the road with motorists. However, just because a law says we must share the road, does not mean motorist and cyclist will automatically coexist in harmony. Riding your bicycle on the streets is like a game of Russian roulette. Eventually, a cyclist will end up next to the wrong car, or think that they are visible to everyone, or even make a fatal turn themselves, and the game will come to a screeching and metal twisting halt.
This year on Valentines Day, my friend texted me the following story of an unfortunate encounter between a car and bicycle: "Oh my God! After boot camp, we all were walking out of the rec center and saw an ambulance loading a woman into the car. Some college girl in an SUV hit her, and she is now talking to the cops.
