Sun Yat-Sen - A personality study

 


             Socialism was about the well being of all Chinese people. The people of China would be somewhat deprived of the right to own land, yet they ad the opportunity to retain rights over their land. Sun Yat-Sen thought that landlords had too much power due to owning certain amounts of land. Sun Yat-Sen had originally designed the Three People's Principles to be flexible to changing circumstances. However, this also meant that there could be many different interpretations, and this often served as the source of many conflicts between the political parties in China- the Guomindang and the Chinese Communist party.
             1897 - 1900: Revolutionary Work.
             In a visit to Japan in 1897 Sun made friends with many influential Japanese leaders, who later provided him with political and financial assistance. The "Revive China Society" was once again started and was increasing in popularity during this time. From then on he received increasing support, especially from intellectuals and overseas Chinese. Despite repeated failures of armed uprisings, his efforts resulted in a rising tide of revolutionary sentiment and attracted wide attention. Sun worked towards the first capitalist revolutionary party, the Tongmenghui. .
             1900 - : The Boxer Rebellion .
             The Boxer Rebellion was aimed at the expulsion of all foreigners from China was the ultimate objective of the Boxer Rebellion. In 1899 a secret society of Chinese called the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, known by the westerners as Boxers, began a campaign of terror against Christian missionaries in the northeastern provinces. Economic and political exploitation of China by various Western powers and Japan and humiliating military defeats inflicted by Great Britain in the Opium Wars (1839-1842, 1856-1860) and by Japan in the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) were the main causes of Chinese resentment.
             The terrorist activities of the Boxer society culminated on June 17, 1900, in a general uprising in Beijing, capital of China.
