Hosea shows that God is not happy about having to punish his people. Hosea uses the theme of marriage quite frequently in his prophecy. At the time of Hosea's activity the people were unfaithful to God, no loving compassion, and had no fidelity towards him. He states that the people have no knowledge of God, saying even people who should have a deeper understanding of God such as Kings, nobles, and even priests did not possess true knowledge of God, and Hosea spoke powerful words towards them. The most important thing to Hosea was the knowledge of God.The people had abandoned God for for the pleasures and profits offered by pagan gods or people, and Hosea was trying to restore order and bring them back to the covenant. Hosea believed that God has chosen Israel, the theology focuses on Gods personal relationship with Israel in a deeper context. Towards the last days of the Northern Kingdom Hosea creates imagery of instability, distrust, and idolatry. He states that even a God who is a loving husband for father can discipline a child to bring it back to its senses. The punishment for the people was given only so that God could forgive them, because he was willing to do so, but it was up to the people to repent. The fall of the Kingdom occurred at God's hands because the people of Israel lacked loyalty to him. God would not forget Israel,or lose hope that they would return to the covenant once again. Jeremiah began his prophecy in 627 B.C., Jeremiah has the most prophetic, and longest activity in the Bible. In contrast to Hosea, Jeremiah was said to be very young at the start of his prophecy. He continued to preach passed the final exile in 586 B.C., and doesn't disappear until about 582 B.C. His prophetic activity was around fourty-five years long. Unlike many other prophets Jeremiah reveals the deeper feelings of the prophets, and how emotional they felt towards Yahweh and his word, which is something him and Hosea share.
