Code of Ethics for Radiologic Technologists

As radiologic technologists we interact with the general public on a daily basis. Radiologic technologists are given a set of rules that they must follow to help them provide the best quality care for their patients. These rules are called the ASRT code of ethics. It is extremely important that technologists are well acquainted with these rules to guarantee that the patient's quality of care is not compromised. The ASRT code of ethics can be broken down into 10 different sections. .
The first code states that when you are assisting patients you are expected to carry yourself in a professional manner at all times. This means that you should always be dressed in appropriate attire and use appropriate language when communicating with patients. Additionally, it is important to support and communicate with other radiologic technologists because it gives you an opportunity to collaborate ideas to come up with the best possible plan for your patient. Also it is important that you listen to your patient and make sure that all their needs are met. For example, in the hospital when we place our patients back into their bed or wheelchair after an exam, we always ask if we can adjust any of their blankets or pillows before we place them in the hallway. Also, it tends to be a bit on the colder side in the department so I always make sure to offer a warm blanket to anyone who is waiting a long time for transport to take them back to their room. .
The second code states that you are to treat every patient that you help with the respect that they deserve. This is very important to remember especially when you are dealing with an unpleasant patient that may not be overly helpful during the exam. Even though this may be a challenge sometimes you must always try to stay calm and speak in a warm tone of voice when helping patients. The third code says that as a radiologic technologist you are to provide the best quality care that you can without discrimination.
