Anemia - Symptoms and Treatments

Blood is made of two parts, the plasma and the cellular parts. The most numerous cell types are the red blood cells. Red blood cells deliver oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body. Anemia is the condition the condition in which the red blood cell count is to low. Anemia has many types, causes, symptoms, and treatments. There are many medical conditions that cause anemia, and hundreds of types of anemia, which can be divided into three groups. The first group, excessive blood loss anemia, is caused by acute or chronic bleeding that reduces red blood cell count. The blood loss may be caused by: ulcers, hemorrhoids, inflammation, cancer, menstruation, surgery, trauma, and regular blood donations. The second group occurs when the bone marrow cannot keep up with the needed blood cell production, this is called hemolysis. .
A red blood cell lives for about 110 days, after that it is broken down and removed. If red blood cells die too early the bone marrow must make more, but if it can't make enough the red blood cells will fail and cause hemolysis. Immune reactions, infections, toxins, medical procedures, and certain medications all cause the death of red blood cells. If the body does not have enough red blood cells, or hey do not function properly, the body has deficient blood cell production anemia. Those with this type of anemia may have various types of disorders and deficiencies for example, sickle cell anemia, an inherited disorder which caused the blood cells to be crescent shape and break down before oxygen can reach vital organs; not enough iron, lack of iron which may be caused by poor diet, blood loss, or an inability to absorb iron; vitamin deficiency, often caused because the stomach cannot produce enough of the intrinsic factor vital for the absorption of B12; bone marrow problems, if bone marrow is faulty it may not be producing enough red blood cells, may be caused by a lack of vitamin B12; certain medications, cancer medications, especially when given in combination, is linked to the build up of platelets and other organic obstructions in blood vessels, which leads to a shortage of red blood cells.
