Biography of Quentin Tarantino

 

At the age of 22, the young man with no high school diploma began work at a video store (Page, 2005). Store manager Lance Lawson and he would discuss films all day during work, and afterwards, would spend hours watching films together (Charyn, 2006). .
             As for his acting career, Tarantino did not find the success he had hoped for, only acting in an episode of The Golden Girls, and a few shows primarily on local Los Angeles television. After much consideration, Tarantino ultimately decided that directing would be his niche. In an interview with Peter Brunette in 1992, Tarantino explains how he did not go to film school or any college at all, and did not like reading any of the books about directing, because they did not make sense (Greene & Mohammed, 2007).
             After many trials and tribulations, Tarantino put himself on the map with Reservoir Dogs, which was released in 1992 and includes actors Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, and Michael Madsen. This film begins with eight men, who are mostly unfamiliar with each other, eating breakfast in a diner before their planned diamond heist. In a signature Tarantino move, six of the men have aliases, which are Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue, Mr. Brown, Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, and Mr. White. In this initial scene, no information is provided regarding the identities or intentions of the members of the group. The main characters are not introduced in any particular order, and each backstory is provided. Before we fully know the situation, there is a speeding car, with Mr. Orange having been shot, with Mr. White trying to comfort him. Upon arrival to an abandoned warehouse, the group begins arguing about many things, including whether the job was a setup, due to the quick response of the Police. It is also learned at this time that Mr. Brown was killed during the job, and that Mr. Blonde had killed several civilians during the getaway.
