Dismantling Argument - MedlinePlus

Some athletes do not pay attention to their diet when preparing for the season to come. This lack of nutritional awareness can be a detrimental mistake when it comes to performing at the highest level in order for the team to win. Athletes can find themselves trapped behind a locked door when trying to break through to the next level. They will come to find that the key to that door can be found in good nutrition. MedlinePlus writes, "Nutrition can help enhance athletic performance. An active lifestyle and exercise routine, along with eating well, is the best way to stay healthy." MedlinePlus has a firm stance on nutrition for athletics. MedlinePlus clearly states which diets are most effective for athletes. When nutrition comes down to opposing arguments it is found that the argument does not lie in the area of whether or not it is good to eat healthily or unhealthily but more so in the area of which nutrients are best and whether or not to use supplements in an athlete's diet to get what the athlete is really looking for from the workouts.
In MedlinePlus' article, the topic that is addressed is nutrition and athletic performance. Eating a good diet can help provide the energy athletes need to finish a race, or just enjoy a casual sport or activity. Athletes are more likely to be tired and perform poorly during sports when the athlete does not get enough nutrients (MedlinePlus). MedlinePlus claims the diet for an athlete is not very different from the diet recommended for anyone trying to improve their physical and mental health. The one point they don't forget to make is that the amount of each food group that the athlete should eat depends on three things. First, the type of sport being played: if the athlete plays a sport such as soccer then their body will need different nutrients than that of a body builder. Second, the amount of training the athlete is doing: whether or not an athlete is working out for an hour or more the amount of carbohydrates recommended for the body changes and can drastically affect performance.
