Argumentative Essay - Vaccinations

Imagine the child that you adore suffering. He or she has contracted a serious disease that could have been prevented. Countless diseases from tuberculosis to mumps, pertussis, scarlet fever and the measles were once thought to be eradicated. Unfortunately these diseases, once thought to be eradicated, are reoccurring because people are not being vaccinated like they once were. Vaccinations should be mandatory since technological advances have made them more beneficial than harmful and will reduce the reoccurrence of eradicated diseases.
Vaccinations are the administering of antigenic material to produce immunity, or close to immunity, to a disease. Noticeably, vaccines have had a large impact on our world today. Since they were first discovered until now they have advanced in accuracy and in turn brought a tremendous amount of benefits. To begin, according to unicef, approximately 5 million lives are saved annually due to vaccinations. There has been elimination of diseases because of vaccination in the United States and many that are close to being eliminated. There are 14 infectious diseases that are under control because of vaccinations that include Diphtheria, H. Influenza, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Pneumococcal Disease, Polio, Rubella, Congenital Rubella, Smallpox, Tetanus, and Varicella. There is a 100% decrease in 3 of these that include diphtheria, polio and smallpox. This means they will stay eradicated if vaccinations are used. Of the 14 listed diseases, there is a 99% decrease in 5 which include the diseases H. Influenza, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Congenital Rubella. While the other 6 have a 74% (pneumococcal disease) decrease or better (Hepatitis a- 91%, Hepatitis B-83%, Pertussis-93%, Tetanus-98% and Varicella-89%). .
To move on, technological advances in vaccines have made them much more efficient. The recombinant proteins in vaccination are genetically engineered DNA.
