The Economy and Increasing Minimum Wage

The Author states, "Raising the minimum wage is now more important than ever. Minimum wage increases stimulate the economy by increasing consumer spending, without adding to state and consumer spending drives 70% of the economy"(NELP). The more money that employers make, the more money that they will spend. Which will help the economy through businesses. Additionally, strengthening the minimum wage can help build a sustainable economic recovery- without increasing costs for tax payers. For example, in the article, "Raise the minimum wage", the author describes that more and more families than ever are relying on low-wage jobs to make ends meet. The author states, "Fully 58 percent of all jobs created in the post-recession were low-wage occupations, according to a 2012 report by the National Employment Law Project" (NELP). Due to so many low-wage jobs in 2012, there was a recession and the economy struggled, so we should raise the economy struggled, so we should raise the wage to prevent this. In brief, raising the minimum wage will help the economy and keep Americans out of poverty by providing more purchasing power and prevent recessions.
             Furthermore, the minimum wage should be increased to ensure that college students don't struggle during college and drop out. First of all, college is tough to afford with no financial aid or help from family. For example, I'm a student at Miramar College and in order to pay off tuition every semester, I have to work a lot of hours. The minimum wage for me is $9 and is just barely enough to support me. I have friends in the same boat as me, and they fall behind in school due to late nights of work. If the wage were higher, I could work less hours and focus on keeping up with school.
