Residential Children's Homes.
( ask about local authority or private sector) Residential care homes is usually an option for children in the specialist sector or children with more severe behavioural needs, this type of service has links between care, health, education and counselling as they may be working with damaged children. They have a high ratio of staff to the amount of children due to children's requirements. Staff will receive a high level of training , support and supervision to ensure that quality of care is provided to a high standard. Residential care homes also provide care for children who only need to stay there for a short period of time and then return to their families. They focus on attachment and promoting independence and resilience to the child.
Young Offenders Institute.
This type of service is often Government run but some are commissioned in from the private sector, it is mostly used by children who have been remanded into custody, and to the children who have higher end needs linked to risks, mental health needs and behaviours. YOI focus on maintaining education and health whilst reducing the risks of the child reoffending. They provide multi disciplinary teams to meet all needs and manage the risks.
Residential Schools.
This type of service focuses on education with their own specialised registered schools, they have low class numbers due to the higher needs of the children and education disruption. Residential schools will often provide extra places to local authorities for children who have been excluded or have specific needs- learning difficulties. A foster social worker has the important role of recruiting, assessing, preparing and training potential foster carers. They provide security, stability, love and a strong sense of identity. Foster social workers support the carer and reviews each foster carer and provides them with training, they prepare comprehensive assessments for the fostering panel.
