How Lego Almost Failed

To conclude we will discuss what we can learn from this case and from Lego as far as strategy and how they communicated their brand to their audience and the big lessons that Lego as a company also learnt. If Lego had carried on with their innovations, stepping further away from their original brand image of the Lego brick and catapulting into further costs and debt, they inevitably would have fallen into bankruptcy and they would have either had to liquidize the company or sell to a big investor and risk taker, who would try to turn it around and to make it a success like it was once before. .
Lego had built their brand image on the brick and this is what the die hard fans of their toys loved, others they tried to attract by making new toys that didn't involve construction and this meant they lost focus on their existing customers by trying to gain new ones. Not only did this fail but it also left a lasting mark on Lego as a brand, because as the Lego fans they would have felt confused about Lego, as in which direction they were going, and if they really wanted to make Lego the toy they invested in for educational purposes or otherwise for their children. It seemed that Lego was becoming tired of their original plastic brick and this wasn't a good example to set for their loyal customers. Maybe if it wasn't good enough for Lego it also wasn't good enough for their kids either.
A company has to keep their faith in their product, even if it's just for their remaining fans because if they lose that faith their fans may also lose it too. Luckily in the end Lego realised their mistake as a company and also as brand that many people still followed. So instead of trying to innovate themselves away from what they knew, they stuck to exactly what it was they were experts in and that was construction and bricks. They went back to the drawing board and came up with many new characters and stories what children loved about Lego and they made each piece to fit any set so kids could build and build on their Lego sets mixing pieces together.
