Doris Lessing's Life

Doris Lessing, what a great woman! As you know, Doris is still going strong, and she is keeping up with her writing!! In fact, she came out with 3 books last year (2002.) And coming in November this year (2003), she has a book coming out called "The Grandmothers" Which shows points of view on society on a black girl. It's a book about an unprivileged black girl (Victoria) in London. By chance, she meets the Staveney's, a white middle-class family. Victoria becomes pregnant by one of the Staveney's sons.
Doris grew up in Kermanshah, Persia. It was alright, and she had two siblings. Then she moved to Rhodesia. Her mother was very strict and proper so it was a hard life but back then, everyone's mother was somewhat strict! Doris dropped out of school at the age of 13. It was mainly because of eye trouble. So she sort of taught herself about life and it's riches.
Her first job was working for a telephone company. Then she jumped from that to working for a law firm to writing!.
Doris just really didn't know what she wanted to do with my life. She was good on a typewriter, so that's why she worked in the law firm, and telephone company. She finally found that she loved writing, so she went on with it.
Then Doris got married to Frank Wisdom. That didn't really last. But had two children with Frank- Jean & John. Then Doris got remarried again, and divorced again. Had another child.
