Imagine

"Imagine" by John Lennon is a hopeful song about peace on earth. The first verse states "Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try, no hell below us, above us only sky, imagine all the people, living for today." I try to find something new worth living for everyday; I try to look at the world through rose-colored glasses, and look forward to each new sun rise. I believe it is healthy and reassuring to believe in an afterlife, but some view it as an alternative life to the one they"re currently living, and easy way out. Life is beautiful; everyone should live for today because who knows what tomorrow will bring? .
The second verse states "Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do, nothing to kill or die for, no religion too, imagine all the people living life in peace." If there were no countries to represent, there would be no war, hence peace on earth. If there was no religion there wouldn't be as much conflict because everyone would believe in one thing, the true meaning of united. .
The third verse states "Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, no need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man, imagine all the people sharing all the word." Sharing is a hard concept to grasp for many people today. If there were no possessions, the greed that comes with them would diminish; therefore, we would live in a caring, sharing world. .
The chorus repeated throughout the song is as follows; "you may say I"m a dreamer, but I"m not the only one, I hope some day you"ll join us, and the world will live as one. "The world has changed so dramatically that it is indeed hard to imagine everything Lennon asks us to in this song. Yet peace on earth is supposedly our ultimate goal. We"ll keep trying to live in peace regardless, I hope some day you"ll join us.
