Medea helps Jason to subjugate the obstacles set before him by King Aeetes. However, King Aeetes quickly realizes that Jason could not have been able to perform his required task without Medea's assisting him. When King Aeetes still refused to relinquish the fleece, Medea revealed it's hiding place and drugged the guardian dragon. King Aeetes decides to burn the Argo, the ship in which Jason was sailing, in order to hinder Jason's escape. The Argonauts then flee Colchis with the fleece, pursued by King Aeetes. Medea slits her younger brother Absyrtus throat and cuts him into pieces, scattering the parts of his body in the sea. King Aeetes stopped to retrieve the dismembered pieces of his son's body, as Medea had anticipated. The Argonauts were able to evade capture. This incident reveals Medea's unnerving dedication and loyalty to Jason. Together Jason and Medea return to Iolcus, where Medea restores Jason's father, Aeson, to his youth. . Upon their return they also discovered that Pelias had continued his totalitarian rule and had no intention on fulfilling his promise of giving Jason the throne of Iolcus. Medea persuaded Pelias that he could be rejuvenated by having pieces of his body boiled in a magical brew, just as his brother Aeson. She promises to do so, and to convince the daughters to carry out such a outrageous act she boils a ram, using magic herbs, which becomes a lamb. The daughters cut up and boil their father Pelias, but Medea neglects to give them the herbs and he dies. Pelias was consequently murdered by his innocent daughters. Again showing her dedication to Jason. Jason seized the city, but because of this disaster, he and Medea were expelled by Acastus, the son of Pelias. .
