Watership Down Warrens

Where do Hazel and his tenacious group of rabbit's travel? Hazel and the rabbits that follow him travel to three warrens in search of a place to make a new one in the novel Watership Down, written by Richard Adams. All of these warrens are different. They have different governments, different locations, and different rabbit morales. Sandleford is the first warren that the rabbits are in.
The rabbits first start out in Sandleford Warren (14-15). Threarah, the chief rabbit, does not listen to Fiver's advice to leave the warren (26-27). This warren has an autocracy government. Threarah has unlimited power in the warren. Sandleford is located on a precipitous slope about 100 yards from a stream. Cowslip's Warren, the closest warren, is about two miles away from Sandleford (14-15). Sandleford is on the outskirts of some woods. The rabbits in Sandleford are happy. They feel safe and protected by the Owsla. The Owsla and Threarah consume a lot of food. They are able to do this because of the reconnaissance searches for lettuce. Although the rabbits start out in Sandleford they travel to Cowslip's Warren later.
The second warren that the rabbits end up in is Cowslip's Warren. There is no real government in Cowslip. The rabbits that live here are fed by a man who sets traps to catch them. Cowslip's rabbits do not eat like most rabbits. They get the food that the man put out and carry it underground to it. Fiver thinks they look like dogs when they do this (102-103). Cowslip is located three miles from Nuthanger Farm (14-15). It is in the middle of the woods and the rabbits take advantage of this by using the roots to hold up their great burrow. The rabbits in Cowslip's are strange. They laugh, sing, and dance. Cowslip's rabbits want more foreign rabbits to come so that they will have less of a chance of being caught in a snare. The rabbits feel they should accept their death with dignity.
