Globalization vs. Protectionism

Laws are being established by corporations that will affect the whole world, but these laws are made by only a few people. These corporations were very active in the General Association of Tariffs and Trade and are very active in the World Trade Organization and are trying to use their influence in these organizations to control the outcome of trade between nations. At the same time, these corporations, although they are trying to keep others down, are actually helping growing countries because of the new influx of money into their markets and are gaining power and influence in the world.
On the other hand there is people's globalization, which is the inverse of corporate globalization. Instead of helping only a few and exploiting all the others, people's globalization is serving all people and trying not to exploit even a few. They understand that the world is becoming closer through many forms of technology, but at the same time, they are trying to use the technology to benefit the world as a whole and not just the few elite. People's globalization seems to understand the big picture and realize that it is a grass roots movement between people, not corporations. By trying to help connect and bring cities together, this form of globalization down plays the connection of corporations. While people's globalization is trying to free the world, the corporate globalization seems to be enslaving the world and trying to conform it to their ideals. .
The antithesis of globalization is isolationism, which is the idea of protecting your home business and your country against other intruders. It is a reactionary policy used to fight against the spread of free international trade and globalization. This is how the United States originally conducted its self in the early 1800's. In the 1930's during the Depression, the US took the advice of John Maynard Keynes and decided to participate in deficit spending and become a major player in global trade to increase the demand and to cope with unemployment.
