Examples in the movie were the tone of his voice and his consistent yelling as he talked about the case. His prejudice takes on the "slums" and that they are born ignorant is an example as well as he demanding that juror number eleven tell why he changed his vote. Juror number eight however was calm for the most part, listened, and respected the other eleven jurors and their opinion. The book refers to this type of leadership characteristic as manifesting conformity to the group's norm, values, and goals. He also avoided telling the other member's of the group what they should think. He allowed them to form their own opinions and just gave his in order to prove reasonable doubt. Juror eight's style of leadership is referred to as democratic, nondirective and participative. While the foremen's choice was laissez-faire which provides no direction and no regard is accorded the social transaction in the group. Juror number ten was trying to take over with an autocratic type of leadership "my way or the highway" which was proven in the movie as a non-productive approach. This also falls into the way the three of them expressed there views the foremen didn't have much to say and when he did he said nothing more then guilty, where as juror number eight was calm and had reasons backing him that the other jurors could sympathize with, and juror number ten stated his view as being the only one and the right one. The leadership role was turned over and controlled by juror number eight when the jury took a vote and was split down the middle six to six. The members of the group started to doubt themselves and others and the tables turned as they looked to juror number eight for answers after he had displayed the characteristics said above and then came the rain. The next vote was nine to three to confirm a new leader had arose. Juror number three went on a prejudice rampage to further prove he was taking one last stand at being the autocratic leader and failed miserably when all jurors one by one left the table to show their loyalties were with someone else.
