WHEN THE IMAGINATION DIES

My 1st acquaintance with writing a copy left me bewildered. My original idea was to write an article on education. The way to set about it at first appeared obvious. It meant drawing a complete picture of the education system-its structure, its interests, its ideals, its politics and its pitfalls as it was from the time of my earliest conscious memory. But to my dismay it turned out a hopeless failure.I set down to write a whole load of ideas which to me at first seemed original but which, after skimming through, seemed to smack of plagiarism. Then I tried the effect of reproducing what I had written in a satirical manner. This too was a failure.Next I began to scatter articles on equal pay and married women's careers through the pages of magazines and newspapers .In consequence,I wrote on various aspects without genuine conviction.I am not ,I think,a naturally vindictive person but i have never enjoyed any experience more than the process of decanting my hatred of the various existing norms into my essays. However, originality was becoming singularly hard to accomplish. So I decided to tackle the complex rudiments of english grammar and I set myself the unnecessary task of trying to understand the difference between,'see something through' and 'see through something'.I finally figured it out in a state of ecstatic entrancement which i do not now know whether to regard as funny or pathetic.Failing to gain inspiration,I decided to have a nice little talk with some of the girls I know in my locality.Predictably, most of them were engrossed in surreptitious conversations about the male-female eqution and physical relationships between the two.As I listened ,I was left with a very unsatisfying feeling to know that the girls were obviously pleased with so many stupid and superficial men.I also wondered with displeasure at their sexual curiosity and their naivety regarding the same. Thanks to the enlightment by my parents, who are doctors,in addition to my stock of physiological information,I have a fairly comprehensive idea of the precise nature of the act.
