Paul Hawken and Lester Brown are only two men out of a small percentage of the planets population trying to save the world from its economical, suicidal path, of self destruction. The other percentage of the worlds population is either uninformed or just doesn't care, that our planets population is out of control; or that our natural resources are running out. We as human beings must improve the standards of living and production by putting the environment first, before there is no planet for our children to live in.
Lester Brown points out that the human population is out of control and that something must be done soon. As the planets population continues to increase the amount of natural resources begin to disappear faster and faster. Lester Brown gives us three ways to achieve an environmentally sustainable future: 1) The restructuring of the global economy so that it does not destroy or degrade its natural support systems. 2) Major shifts in human reproductive behavior. 3) Dramatic change in lifestyles.
I agree with Paul Hawken when he says," Most Americans are filled with the cornucopian fantasies of technological prowess, where human ingenuity bypasses natural limits and creates unimagined abundance." Technology is a wonderful thing but it can't solve all the problems in this world. Computers can't eliminate hunger, diseases, and wants. Technology will never be able to do what our planet does naturally and even if a machine is able to, how much will it cost? It will probably cost too much too even imagine, but why pay if nature will do it for free.
