By the Japanese bombing the Pearl Harbor it would give the United States just cause to join in the fight. Numerous warnings of a Japanese attack were both intercepted and even told straight to FDR. Yet, he did nothing. I don't condone Roosevelt for what he did but facts have shown that he received warnings before the attack and no measures were taken to prevent the extreme loss of life on December 7th. I know I wasn't born yet but I tired to put it into perspective and I though about September 11th. The same types of actions were happening. However, the attack was much more secretive. I know for a fact that if the United States government had any clue about where and when the attack on the twin towers was going to happen, they would do everything in their power to prevent this tragedy from happening. I feel that Franklin D. Roosevelt and his chosen leaders did anything to prevent this from happening. They knew the attack was coming, yet they did nothing. No preparations, no drill, no warnings until it was to late. The telegram came to Pearl Harbor and hour to late. The entire pacific fleet was already hit. FDR knew that the Japanese and Germans were lying to us. In a sense they were speaking peace but acting war. The secret codes told him they were negotiating with us while preparing to attack. Our government was looking for a way into the war that didn't anger the American people. FDR believed that an entrance to the fight against the Nazi's could be achieved, without angering the people, if war with the Japanese was started. .
So now the question still remains, Did Roosevelt allow Pearl Harbor to happen so as to get the U.S. into the war. I believe he did. However, FDR like the navy very much. So, to deliberately sabotage them might not entirely be accurate. He might sacrifice the Army, but not the Navy. The reason was because hr was under the secretary of the Navy in World War I. Also, He liked boats and ships so if he knew an attack was coming; he might not have let his favorite line of defense get bombed.
