             System Construction.
Once the inventory was complete the case was removed from the box and inspected for damage. On of the plastic front panel standoffs were broken. The CD ROM drive was installed in the top bay and the hard drive was positioned in the bottom bay. Next, the CPU and fan were installed on the motherboard. Care was taken on this portion of the install for matters related to ESD (electrostatic discharge) by wearing a ground wrist strap. Once the CPU was placed into the socket and secured, the thermal compound was applied over its entirety. The fan/heatsink was placed on top of the CPU and was secured. There was a concern that it may not be attached tight enough. There was a small amount of movement. The fan clip is adjustable, but it was decided that if it was moved up to the next level it may have been too tight so it was left as is. There will be a consultation with the instructor about this matter before the system is powered up to avoid any heat damage to the CPU. Before the motherboard was placed into the case it was realized that the previously installed CD ROM drive needed to be moved lower. This was decided after it was realized that the ribbon cable that connects the two drives was too short.
