Alternative wc

Problems are attributed to vibration when the toilet is flushed. The complexity of the filtration system necessitates frequent maintenance, and in some cases requires an operative to be on site permanently to repair leaks etc as they occur. The holding tank usually needs to be emptied two to three times per week.
Costs for this type of system are not available as there is only one manufacturer of this type of toilet and they are unlikely to continue manufacture for much longer, however if a system were to be purchased then costs both to install and to maintain would be extremely high.
             Advantages.
Oil recirculaing systems use no water so don't contaminate ground water or contribute to high water bills.
They are suitable for use in areas were there is no water supply.
             Disadvantages.
After many uses the mineral oil flushing medium may become discoloured and smelly necessitating changing the oil.
Systems require a large area for the holding tank and associated filters pumps etc.
Disposal of waste products may be problematic due to the contamination of mineral oil.
Initial instillation costs are very high.
Maintenance costs of the system are very high.
Specialised skills need to be employed to maintain and install systems.
Due to the viscosity of the oil pipes are often damaged and need frequent replacing.
             Composting Toilets.
Invented in Sweden, composting toilets have been used with success for more than 30 years. They require no water and therefore provide the solution for many sanitation problems, both locational and environmental.
A composting toilet breaks down waste into compost. They rely on humid conditions to promote the growth of naturally occurring bacteria which breakdown waste. If designed and used correctly a composting toilet will breakdown waste to between 10% and 30% of its original size. This type of toilet is particularly suitable for use in remote areas where there are no sewers or running water.
