            August Wilson"s "Fences" spans a wide variety of topics; stretching from father .
             versus son, husband versus wife, and blacks versus whites. These themes are ultimately .
             tied together through the concept of family. In terms of father versus son, Cory had .
             dreams of playing college football in North Carolina; he was being recruited for .
             scholarship. However, Troy's past experience as a black athlete in that level and only .
             caused him to condemn his son"s decision to play. Consequently, Troy even went as far as .
             taking Cory off of his high school team. Racism was largely contributed to Troy's .
             attitude. Due to racism and the way blacks were treated back then, Troy failed as an .
             athlete at that age. He does not want his son to go through the same struggles. Another .
             symbol in the play would be Troy's wife's" name, "Rose." Rose has a thorn on her side; .
             her husbands infidelity. Yet, of essence, she is a women with great beauty. She is loyal .
             lover whom took up the job of raising Troy's" baby of the lady he cheated on her with. .
             The play is called "Fences" for a reason throughout the movie Troy has been building a .
             fence for around his house. The fence was asked to be built by his wife Rose. The fence .
             should be called a wall because it is their to keep out death; harm. This fence is used to .
             protect themselves and their possessions as the outcasts of society because of their skin.
             My first response to the play "Farts" was the thought of my career in high school .
             playing athletics. Athletes play their game not only for fun but to learn. Teamwork, .
             dedication, winning, and even losing. These lessons from sports can help establish a greater dedication with your family, friends and teammates. Unfortunately, Dick saw the .
             negative aspect of this and grew up to believe that blacks were inferior to white not only .
             in sports yet in life in general. Fences shows the harddicks this family went through and .
