Joy and Sadness of Interacial relationships

Tim Mclauren's except from Keeper of the Moon, depicts the joy and sadness of interracial friendship. These kind of friendships are normally good depending on the kind of bond between the friends. Friends that have grown up with each other and have been together for a long time, like Tim and LJ in Keeper of the Moon, have a stronger relationship no matter what happens. I have had a friend of another race, he was white. I think such frienships are positive, because both races can learn from each other.
In most cases, the joys of interracial friendships are visible. As we see in the excerpt, TJ and Tim enjoyed being with each other. They grew up together, played the same games and found the same personalities in each another. They threw rocks at cars that passed on the road. Their ages were similar, both of their noses tended to run during cold weather and the wore clothes that were similar. The only thing different about them that kept the distance that will never end, was their skin color. TJ was black and Tim was white.
My best friend growing up was white. His name was West and we attended the same church. We played basketball and went to Sunday school together. We were close because we had similarities and liked each others personalities. We both wore the same pair of Nike, we liked wearing earings and we were humurous. There was a great deal of respect between us regardless of our skin colors. We never looked down .

I think such friendships are positive. They are positive because both races can learn something unique about the other race. In my case, I learnt that white boys can jump, i had always thought that it was the black boys that were blessed with a vertical when it came to playing basketball. I believe learning about another race would help diminish racism. There is racism today because one race feels that the other is inferior for whatever reason.
