Genesis 1 and colossians 1

            Question 3: Genesis 1 and Colossians 1.
Genesis 1 begins with the line, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) With this as the first sentence in the bible, we are introduced to the idea that for God, the beginning and the end has no significance because he is beyond both. He is the creator of time, and nothing stands behind him. If we can believe that God created heaven and earth out of nothing, then everything else is possible. .
Through Genesis 1, we are taught that God has a mind, will, and an intellect. This is shown as he says, "Let there be ," in which he makes decisions and creates each thing with its own essence. When he creates man and woman, he makes them unlike any other creature because we can change our ways or course. He gives us the power to choose through freewill. Under his evaluation, every other aspect of his creation was considered "good" except for human and darkness. This is because we have freewill, and can use this freedom in a bad way. Darkness is a symbol of the possibility of evil, and because this possibility exists, it cannot be called good either. In order to know this, the knowledge you would need to have knowledge of what "good" is, in which you would have to be God. Also, God shows his intelligence by his creation of the sun on day four, and has three days without light. People worship the sun, and by creating it on the forth day, he has the light come from himself instead of the sun. .
God created us in his image, and because it pleased him to do so. We are created for his pleasure. This is shown in Colossians 1:16 where Paul writes, "For in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers: all things were created through him and for him." This shows that mankind exists to please God, and that we were planned and wanted by God from the beginning.
