Benefits of Yoga

Nowadays, yoga is one of the most used methods in the mind-body connection. "Yoga refers to a type of exercise based on controlled breathing, diet, exercise and a series of physical postures" (Yoga, 1). This exercise is commonly linked to meditation and relaxation. Yoga is very useful because it helps you to control your mind, contributes to health, and works as a stress-reducer. This type of exercise is mainly recommended to people with a very active and demanding life, especially teenagers. Teenagers tend to cope with many activities in their life, involving school, family and friends, that causes them problems. These kinds of problems make their lives a little bit stressed and they need to face them to make them disappear. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to practice some kinds of exercises, such as yoga, that relaxes the body and the mind.
One benefit of yoga is the way it helps people to control their minds. According to Patanjali, an Indian that lived approximately in the year 300 B.C., there are three steps that help people to control their minds. They are called concentration, meditation and contemplation. The first one helps to focus on some ideas or things so the person cannot think in anything else, than his or her visualization. When this point is reached, meditation occurs. In meditation, the person thinks also on an object or idea, and after a really deep concentration, they become what they are thinking. Then on contemplation, the person experiences a sense similar of the drug effects. When someone is able to complete the process, they experience a state of peace, where their minds are so relaxed that they can control them. This process "transforms the individual and brings an illumination and inner certainty which can be of great practical help in daily life" (Approaches to yoga, 3). Mind control is very useful because if you have the power to control your mind you will be able to do whatever you want, without any limitations.
