In The Scarlet Letter the Puritans were apprehensive about showing their true selves to one another which made them look like the hugest hypocrites to exist because while they are uttering horrible things that are not any of their business they do not expose their true colors afraid of showing a clear picture of the person they are behind the Puritan way of life. Everyone keeps something to themselves because automatically they come to the conclusion that if they say this "quality" it can ruin their reputation with the people that surround them. But, we are taught not to keep our traits from the world because it is better for the world to know that find out from a different source other then themselves.
Hester Prynne was a prime example to the quote " show freely to the world, if not their worst, yet some trait whereby the worst may be inferred.". She was not afraid to show her trait of Adultery in her life. She proudly exposed her daughter Pearl who was not brought into this world under a blissful marriage but, other then by another man who wasn't her husband. Hesters" courage portrays something going on currently in another part of the world. The young woman in Nigeria who was sentenced to being stoned to death only because she had a child out of wed lock. The young woman kept her head held high while holding her child in both arms. She is an example that courage keeps people from showing who they are and the ability to have their heads held high under certain circumstances that others make it seems if it is the worst crime anyone can commit. But really it isn't because they have the boldness to expose something that they value priceless and have no shame in what has been done. Role models are what I would call these two women who stand up for what's true and what they believe is right. Now since we've used the word Adultery lets explore another event which caused mayhem among certain important people in our country.
